Bio

Yun Xie is a writer/director born and raised in China, based in Los Angeles. Her passion for storytelling began in the theater of Shanghai, and she followed that passion to New York City, where she trained as a filmmaker at the School of Visual Arts. Yun’s debut feature, UNDER THE BURNING SUN, world premiering at the 2025 Slam dance Film Festival and won Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature. Yun’s previous work includes the doc series WHY WE DANCE (TUBI), and short films such as THE STRIPPERS (SLIFF), PIER LAS VEGAS (Stockholm, FIRST Xining), and THE STILL LIFE (SVA Best Short of the Year).

 

With a unique focus on the intricacies of womanhood, Yun’s films explore the multifaceted challenges women face, capturing their strength, vulnerability, and resilience. Her work resonates deeply, sparking conversation and offering nuanced perspectives on the complexities of the female experience.
